FAFSA Update
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is typically available on October 1st, allowing students to apply for federal financial aid for the upcoming award year. However, the 2024-2025 FAFSA is undergoing some significant changes, which may have caused a delay for students to complete their applications.
Our UMMC Student Financial Services Office is working tirelessly on all of the changes to ensure you receive notifications of required documentation and financial aid offer letters that will detail eligible federal and state funds as soon as possible.
Four Tips for Navigating the Uncertainty:
- Stay Informed - Keep an eye on official announcements from the U.S. Department of Education.
- Communicate - Contact the UMMC Office of Student Financial Services at FinancialAid@umc.edu or (601) 984-1117 with any questions.
- Explore Options - In addition to federal financial aid, consider exploring other avenues for financial support, such as scholarships and private loans.
- Be Flexible - Understand that the delay in offer letters might affect your decision-making timeline.
While the delay in the release of the 2024-2025 FAFSA presents challenges for students and families, it is crucial to approach the situation with patience and resilience. By staying informed and communicating with relevant parties, you can navigate this period of uncertainty and make informed decisions about your higher education journey.
